Here is the interview from the Italian Channel  RAI  by Carlo Paris to our Italy and Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro after the elimination of Italy from the UEFA EURO 2008 or Gli Europei as known in Italian,  in  the  Quarterfinals SPAIN 4 - 2 ITALY

The interview is in Italian. I am including the English translation.  Watch the video
Duration: 1 minute and 26 seconds

Cannavaro: Unfortunately, this is soccer.  Sometimes it gives you satisfaction, happiness, and others it takes everything away.
Yet, I think the team gave their maximum.  We demonstrated that if we play all united it is difficult to beat us. Too bad we are going back home.

Paris: I know you will say no, it's not like this.  However,  many, actually, all commentators say that the absence of Cannavaro was very important.

Cannavaro: No, it's not like that.  I think that we had general problems in the first  match. We had some bad luck but then we got our act together. I think that whoever played, they did well and the only thing I can do is to congratulate my teammates.

Paris: he fist comment was that Italia is out but with their heads high up.  But right after, the comment is about whether Donadoni will continue or not.

Cannavaro: Unfortunately, this is the bad thing of our career. If you win, you are a phenomenon, but if you lose everything is questioned. I think that we worked well l during these years, we qualified for the EURO 2008 and we are out for penalties. I think Donadoni did a good job.

Paris:  Does the team defend Donadoni?

Cannavaro: The team had demonstrated it on the field.

I congratulate Cannavaro for behaving as a Captain despite that he was ruled out because of his knee injury. Yet, he stayed with the group because he wanted to be with them. A good captain never abandon the ship.

Here is the irony.

Imagine, now Cannavaro will go back to his team REAL MADRID and play with his teammates that beat Italy: Goalkeeper Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos.

That was get me confused with the players because far from being upset with Donadoni, they seem to protect him at all cost. It's clear that Donadoni became more a friend than a coach. Don't you think?

True Donadoni and Ancelotti are the type of father figure for the team, but there is no comparison at all when you see the technical tacticall skills from father Ancelotti! Oh my gosh.. how many Tylenols I have to take today!... LOL

Good... you come to your senses...

Canna said what we would have all said if we were in his shoes.Even if he dislikes Donadoni as coach, I doubt he would voice that out in public. These players are professionals and always will try to support the coach and each other by saying the right thing and for that I respect Cannavaro. He gave his professional opinion which may or may be not his personal opinion.
Real is shopping for new defenders, i just hope he doesn't loose his starting position due to this injury.
