After having said CIAO CIAO to Vienna and the dream to win the EURO 2008, our Italian National Team arrived in Italy this afternoon around 6:30 p.m. to Malpensa Airport in Milan for the first stop.

The second stop is for Roma where our Roman gladiators Daniele De Rossi, Alberto Aquilani, Simone Perrotta, and Christian Panucci will arrive safely back to their families and friends.

I am glad that our Azzurri were welcomed by about 200 fans at Malpensa to show them their support.  Sure, each one of our Azzurri must feel  devastated for having lost the  Quarterfinals SPAIN 4 - 2 ITALY in penalties.

We all feel bad about their defeat but imagine how they feel too! Put yourself in their situation.

While I am sad for the elimination, my blog, Italian Soccer Serie A  welcome our Azzurri and give them 100% support. Join me too and send a word to our Azzurri.  They made mistakes, true, but I am a fan and no matter what, I am standing tall for our Azzurri.

Our Saint goalkeeper Gigi Buffon, because he is still the "saint goalkeeper," was very touched by the fans and their expression of support.

Gigi said: "I wasn't expecting a welcome like this. It means our people understood that we gave our maximum"

Here is "Saint goalkeeper Gigi Buffon".  Just look at his sad face, and tell me how not to give him an encouraging word.  This "saint goalkeeper" has given us so many nice moment and I am his most ardent fan.
Glad to see this fan supporting our Gigi.

Ok, I know what are you going to say and I say it too. Italian Head Coach Roberto Donadoni blew it big time, but also, the guy has been already crucified by almost all of us.  So, right now, allow me to welcome Donadoni despite his mistakes.  After all, he is one of our Milanista player too.

Here is our ROARING LION, the gladiator, our ONE AND ONLY Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso.
Welcome home Ringhio.

Our beloved Italy defender Fabio Grosso.  Thanks Grosso for your great tournament.

Ok, let's stop a moment here.  We all know our beloved Italian striker Luca Toni did not score and did not have a great tournament, but come on, he is already a pezzi!  Welcome Luca, we will try another time.
Cheer up Luca, we still love you and support you.
I am happy for these two fans giving their appreciation to Luca.

Ecco il nuovo milanista!  Here is the new Milan player Gianluca Zambrotta.
Welcome home Zambro! Relax and be ready to defend the Rossoneri.  Ci conto!

The REBEL BOY!  Welcome home Cassano.  Thanks God you did not make any "cassanata" when you played.
Thank you for behaving.  I am sure fans appreciate it too, like YOUR SUPER FAN "Nina"!!!

Eccolo il nostro Giorgio!   Here is our Giorgio.  Welcome home Chiellini!
I feel so proud of you because you were the revelation of this team.
Thank  you for defending us well against Spain. I was impressed. Thumbs up!

Welcome home Borriello!  Although you did not play a single minute, I want to thank you for being ready to play for our country.  Grazie.

E dai!  Welcome with open arms Udinese striker Antonio Di Natale.
I know you must be down for having missed the penalty, but we are 11 and whether we lose or win, it's up to the 11  player.  I welcome you and give you my 100% support.
Cheer up TOTO.

I saw this on TV today. Chiellini said that the team 'ha dato il massimo' gave their all. Deep down I'm sure the fans were truly disappointed-goals and not even by the strikers. I'm glad they faced the media and fans at the airport and didn't hide like the Portugal team.

Monica, I agree that as fans we were disappointed. We waited for our strikers to score and nothing happened. Not even the RITUAL before the match to wake up Luca Toni worked. By the way, he removed the mustache

I was also happy that they did not hide but face the FANS and the MEDIA, especially Luca Toni and Donadoni who are the most criticized.

Thumbs up for our Azzurri and let's prepare for the next adventure.

I'm glad that the Azzurri got the welcoming they deserve. After all, they are the world champions and we can't forget that.As one Italian fan said"we might have lost today, but it sure feels good to see four bright stars stitched on the Azzurri shirt;at the end of the day it is us who get to look at that"
Of course he was talking about the 4 stars for the 4 world cups we have won.I thought it was a comforting thought to remember at a time like this.

On another note, did you guys see that only my Cassano had 3 police officers around him.I guess it is safe to assume that he is the most popular among the Italian players of course after Buffon.
Anna, thank you for the Cassano picture.

You are welcome Nina... I was surprised to see Cassano surrounded by 3 policemen... LOL I would have run to hug Saint Goalkeeper Gigi Buffon, De Rossi, and Di Natale as they seem affected for missing the penalty and conceding goals.
