Guys, I am here, so nervous watching the match live and praying with all my heart for our AZZURRI to win.   Bad news for Italy is that Netherlands coach Marco Van Basten gave resting time to 9 of his main players.

Good news is that Italian Head Coach Roberto Donadoni opted for the rebel boy Sampdoria striker Antonio Cassano and Luca Toni for the offense.  Our roaring lion Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso is back as well as Andrea Pirlo along Daniele De Rossi.

Here is the starting 11 for Italy: Gigi Buffon, Gianluca Zambrotta, Christian Panucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Fabio Grosso, Pirlo, Daniele De Rossi, Gennaro Gattuso, Toni,Simone Perrotta and Antonio Cassano.

Here is the starting 11 for France: Coupet, Clerc, Gallas, Abidal, Evra, Govou, Toulalan, Makelele, Franck Ribery, Benzema and  Thierry Henry

Wow, guys, let's cheer for our guys.... they are entering into the field.... wow.. the National Anthem "L'inno di Mameli" and our guys are singing very proudly.... I have goosebumps.... VIVA ITALIA!!!! Here are some photos I took from the TV....

Andrea Pirlo, Daniele De Rossi, Luca Toni and Simone Perrotta... Andiamo ragazzi!!!!

Our Saint goalkeeper Gigi Buffon and Captain                Here are Fabio Grosso and a happy Antonio Cassano
singing with all his heart.  FORZA GIGI!                        singing "L'inno di Mameli"  Come on Cassano!!!

Here we go guys!    First chance for Italy in the 5th minute with Luca Toni shooting from about 20 yards and I am mad, he misses the target.  Ok, calm down, it's only the beginning.  Though, I am telling you that if Luca keeps missing goal opportunities, Donadoni must substitute him.  Forza Toni... dai,

Wow, only three minutes after, and anxiety is to its maximum level!  In the 8th minute, emergency for France.  Franck Ribery seems seriously injured!  Oh oh ... think that we wanted to see the duel between both Bayern Munic playres Ribery - Luca Toni.  No, Ribery cannot continue... Ribery is in deep trouble and stretcher is needed.  Oh wow...

In the 10th minute, first change for France because Ribery is out for injury and it's the time for Nasri.  Good thing is that French fans are giving a standing ovation to Ribery.

Unbelievable, but in the 24th minute, an unexpected penalty!!!!  Referee Lubos Michel grants a penalty to our Azzurri after a clear foul commited by France defender Abidal!  Helloo!  It was too obvious!  Luca Toni was reaching the box fast and Abidal brings him down!!!! Oh oh la la la!  France coach must be having a headache right now!.

Taking the penalty spot is our Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo!  He positions on the spot, look very calm (as usual), and all the stadium is in stand by mode.... Some fans don't even want to see the penalty, and yes, yes, yes, IT IS GOAL!!!!!!!  Pirlo scores for Italia!!!!  Forzaaaaaaaa   PO PO PO PO PO PO PO PO PO wow... he did it!!!!! In the 24th minute, Pirlo blasts France goalkeeper Coupet and silence Domenech for criticizing so much the Italians.
France 0 - 1 Italy

Here is our ANDREA PIRLO celebrating this IMPORTANT GOAL for Italy!  Right now, Italy is in the next round unless Romania beats Netherlands.  Forza PIRLO!!!!  Grazie, thanks for your drive!  Photo: ansa

Bravo Andrea!  Your goal brought so much joy to all Italian fans.  Photo: figc

Watch the video and appreciate the whole action since the moment Referee Lubos Michel  shows the red card to Abidal and the moment when Pirlo takes the penalty.   Duration: 2 minutes.

I am getting nervous with Luca Toni!  He keeps missing the target!  I mean, come on, we all know Luca is the top scorer in the Bundesliga, but he has not score a single goal in these 3 matches yet!  I don't know why he can't finalize the action.  Oh how I miss Super Pippo Inzaghi!!!!

Just in the 30th minute, Luca got a help from "lady luck" when he gets a ball when he was in front of French defender Gallas and cannot profit!!!! Then, our roaring lion Gennaro Gattuso provides an assist and again, mamma mia!  Luca shoots too wide!  Unbelievable.  If he keeps missing this chances, I want Donadoni to substitute him. Italy cannot risk to lose this match.  We need more goals!

The good news arrives from Berne in the 54th minute with the announcement that Huntelaar opened the score for Netherlands!  Almost the entire stadium, especially Italian fans welcome the news because with this result Italy is passing to the next round!  Blessed be this Huntelaar!  He is helping our Italy keep the hope to pass to the next round because we are winning!!!

Interestingly now we are heading to the 60th minute and there are no goals from  our strikers! Neither Luca nor Cassano has scored.  Let's hope they do soon. It will a great moment if Cassano scores!

Wow, mama mia!  In the 62nd minute, the doors on heaven open to welcome our Italian National team with a goal from our Roman gladiator midfielder Daniele De Rossi.  Unbelievable!  Let me tell you, De Rossi sets in position, the French barrier stands still, and then a turning point in this EURO 2008!

De Rossi shoots and the ball is deflected by France symbol "striker Thierry Henry!!!!"   Can you believe it!    Well, the goal belongs to Henry or De Rossi???  Oh well... the screen shows it belongs to DE ROSSI!!!!!  Wow, our Roma Captain Francesco Totti must be happy to see his young friend scoring as well as all Roma!!!! AND SO DO I!!!!
France 0 - 2 Italy

I am jumping of joy and singing PO PO PO PO PO PO.  What a joy guys!  Wow, you should see the face of DONADONI celebrating this second goal!  Hello, it is practically saving his job!  Oh well, right now it's time to celebrate, to get united behind our team.  FORZA AZZURRI!!!!!

Watch the video and see the highlight of Daniele De Rossi's goal.
Durantion: 1 minute

In the 63rd minute, Italian Head Coach Roberto Donadoni makes a substitution.  Simone Perrotta out, Mauro Camoranesi is in.  Well done Perrotta!

In the 65th minute, France Head Coach Raymond Domenech makes his third substitution. Govou out and Anelka is in.

What a moment!  In the 70th minute, our rebel boy Antonio Cassano is down!  Things are getting too crazy with many fouls.  A desperation from the French that are practically out of EURO 2008 unless they do a "rimonta." I doubt it. Come on Azzurri!!!!!

Oh madonna!!!! In the 74th minute, French forward Benzema creates a clear and present danger for the azzurri!  Benzeme shoots and it almost score but guess what.... our Saint goalkeeper Gigi Buffon was there standing firm and ready to defend our victory by making a save!!!!!  Forza Gigi!!!

Fifteen more minutes, come on guys!!! Stringete denti!!!!! We can make it!

In the 82nd minute, time for the last substitution.  Gattuso is out and Alberto Aquilani is in.  Well done Gattuso! Gattuso leaves the field with a great applause for his drive, la sua grinta, his commitment to defend "with his teeth" la nostra bella Italia!  Bravo Gattuso.

I am also happy for Alberto Aquilani.  Finally, we get to see Aquilani!

Eight more minutes guys!!!!

In the 85th minute, Referee Lubos Michel gives a yellow card to Thierry Henry for a foul committed on our Milan defender Gianluca Zambrotta.

Oh no... another chance for Luca Toni!!! You got it, he misses again!

In the 87th minute, a total glory!   News that Van Persie scores the second goal for Netherlands!!!  Hey, this is it guys!  we are in the next round!!!!!  Italy now has two new heros "Huntelaar and Van Persie."  Please send them a box of the best Italian wine!

It means Italy is going to play against SPAIN!!!!!

This is it guys!  Finally, Italy beat France after 30 years since 1978!  We are in the next round!  PO PO PO PO PO.  Time to cheer for our guys!  I bless each one of them!

This is one match that i will be so mad, sad, and disgusted,if we lose.
Loosing to Domenech's France is a slap on the face. No,it is shot in the heart,or a knife in the back.Of course we have to win to have chance to qualify, but more than 3 points are at stake. We all know the rivalry between him and Italy.Leaving the tournament is bad enough, but loosing to France would be the ultimate humiliation.

Yes, I mentioned it on the summary of yesterday training. Most likely Pirlo will leave space to Ambrosini and Del Piero to Cassano.

Though, it might also be a tactic from Donadoni. Del Piero might be the super subs.

Pirlo is the one not being sharp and has not been at his top during training according to Gaetano Stefano from la Gazzetta dello Sport. Gaetano is covering the team and attending the trainings.

I think Pirlo is needed tomorrow but only if he is alert. What do you think?

Italy won with 3 or 4 things in their favor- large part to lady luck in the beginning of the game. I wish the game was 11 against 11 WITH Ribery 'on fire.'

How many goal opportunities does Luca Toni need to finally convert one of his chances? At least 4 in the 1st half.

Apparently Toni's not in great shape right now and I would have wanted Donadoni to replace him with another forward.

If it wasn't for Buffon, Benzema would have scored in the 2nd half. Buffon was the man of the match for me. 2nd- Grosso.
