After the embarassing ORANGE GOLEADA and as Saint Goalkeeper Gigi Buffon said, watching the worst Italian National team since 12 years, time to evaluate each of our players.  From the Scale of 1 to 10, how do you evaluate each and why?
                Netherlands 3 - 0 Italy

Buffon- 5...No real help from the defense, but made a few saves on breakaways to keep it from getting out of control

    Panucci- 4.5

    Barzagli- 4.5

Materazzi- 4....unfortunately Materazzi was probably the worst of the defenders today

Zambrotta- 6 played the best of the defenders and actually had a shot on goal after a nice run

    Ambrosini- 5

Pirlo- 6.5....the best starter on the field...had a nice shot saved by van der sar but thats about it

    Gattuso- 5.5

Toni- 5.5....had a few chances to score but couldn't convert the way Italy needed him to.

    Di Natale- 5

Grosso- 6....did a good job off the bench and should start next game

Del Peiro- 6.5....had a couple nice shots and should start the next game.

In my opinion, Ambrosini, Di Natale, and Camorannesi should be replaced by Del Piero, De Rossi and Grosso....

    Marco Materazzi=2
    Fabio Grosso=8
    Gianluca Zambrotta=6
    Massimo Ambrosini=4
    I add Roberto Donadoni=0
My starting lineup would have been
Gigi buffon,Andrea Barzagli,Giorgio Chienllini,Fabio Grosso,Gainluca Zambrotta,DDR,Andrea Pirlo,Rino Gattuso, Alberto Aquilani, ADP, Luca Toni. If we have the lead, we can always use Ambro as a sub or Perrotta.
If playing with 3 men up front, which i don't like then have Cassano or Camoranesi and with ADP and Luca Toni as permanent starters for now.
    To Don:
The midfield is the core of the team; no player is bigger than the team. If you see someone not focused pull them out and immediately. I don’t care who it is. Please have Panucci in the centre of the defense and let Grosso handle the flank. Throw in Gambirini if need be, he is young and can run faster than most for sure.I’m not convinced with the finishing touch of Di Natale , sorry! This is not a friendly.

After the big disappointment and a bad lunch for the stomach ache, here I come with my ratings and like Mike, I will Roberto Donadoni too:

    Roberto Donadoni: 3
    Goalkeeper: Gigi Buffon = 7
    Christian Panucci 6
    Andrea Barzagli 6
    Marco Materazzi 5
    Fabio Grosso 8 ,
    Gianluca Zambrotta 5
    Massimo Ambrosini 4,
    Andrea Pirlo 4,
    Gennaro Gattuso 5 ;
    Mauro Camoranesi 5
    Antonio Cassano 7,
    Antonio Di Natale 5
    Alessandro Del Piero 8
    Luca Toni 6

My line up using Donadoni 4-3-3:

    Goalkeeper: Gigi buffon,
Defenders: Andrea Barzagli,Giorgio Chiellini,Fabio Grosso, Gamberini,
Midfielders: De Rossi, Andrea Pirlo, Gattuso,
Forwards: Del Piero, Luca Toni, Di Natale.

For super subs: Simone Perrotta, Zambrotta, Aquilani, Antonio Cassano

I still think Di Natale can be in the starting line up but only if having the 4-3-3, as a single striker or duo, it won't work.

My best bet right now for striker is Del Piero instead of Luca Toni

Let's pray this is the end of the 4-3-3! The 3 man midfield is not working for the kind of players we have. with this method you have to depend on the fullbacks to help the offense as opposed to the 4-4-2 and that can be deadly in the counter attack if the fullbacks are over 30,slow, and can't make a quick recovery. Also our all Milan midfield is all 30 or near 30 in the case of pirlo. You can't adapt a method that is not realistic to the teams capabilities.

You see Donadoni have been experimenting 4-3-3 in friendlies and attained good results. That is why he sticked to 4-3-3. But as we can see, it was not effective against the Dutch because our midfield was over-run by them. Our overlapping runs were cut out constanly because whenever we tried to attack from the flanks, they doubled up.
After Del piero came in, then we started to attack from the centre. And dont you guys think it looked more menacing?

Say it louder, "our midfield was over run"

Del Piero made a big difference and of course I agree 100% that we look more menacing.

Forza Del Piero. How about 4-4-2 for next match Italy - Romania?
