Will Milan GET BACK TO THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE next Season if CSKA Sofia Be Expelled? I HOPE SO!

By Anna Italia

Oh what a day!  Unbelievable!  What a twist!

After all the suffering and the big disappointment not only from AC MILAN but also from Milan fans for being left out of the Champions League for finishing in the 5th place, it seems there is a RAY OF HOPE and Milan, my beloved MILAN, might get back to the Champions League if CSKA  Sofia is expelled for financial problems.

Wow, you can say it outloud, WOW!  It will be a real blessing and I am just crying of happiness even if it is not granted yet, but having the  hope of returning to the Champions League this year makes me just cry.  I think how painful it was for our rossoneri and remember their big frustration when even winning the last match against Udinese with a goleada, it all worked for nothing because Fiorentina beat Torino and they got the 4th position for the preliminaries of the Champions League.

How to forget Captain Paolo Maldini sad face while watching the match and knowing it was all over?  How can I forget the grinta from roaring lion Gennaro Gattuso, what about our Musica and Magia KAKA, oh Madonna it just breaks my heart thinking on how much he fought during that match, then, our beloved Super Pippo Inzaghi... uffa, so many memories coming... even the sleepy face of our Milan's architect and brains Andrea Pirlo... the goodbye from Cafu and Serginho....

AC MILAN is the only Italian team shining in the BIG SCENARIO and have been the King of Europe since the arrival of Coach Carlo Ancelotti, as some of Milan fans referred "Father Ancelotti."   In six years, Milan has won two Champions League and last season won the UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA World Best Club.

Bottom line Rossoneri, after CSKA have been denied a license to play in the Bulgarian league, the Bulgarian FA (BFU) is demanding  that they be expelled from European competitions. If this happens, then, Milan can get their position and it will be SHOWTIME... a battle where Milan can prove once again "who is daddy," especially to FC INTER who signed Portuguese Coach Joe Mourinho for the main objective to win the Champions League.  Mamma mia, that my friends, will be a real challenge.  Who will be the Special One after all, Ancelotti or Mourinho?  I like Mourinho and he has been a nice person every time he came to Los Angeles with Chelsea, but my Ancelotti is ANCELOTTI.

There is hope ROSSONERI.... We got to wait for the final procedure. It seems that instead of BFU sending the runner-up team which is Levski Sofia to the Champions League, supposedly, it is the highest UEFA ranked team to take the place, which in this case will be AC MILAN.  If this happens, Milan will enter at the second preliminary round. So guys, this is good news for Italy because there will be 5 Italian teams in the Champions League: AC Milan,  FC Inter, FC Juventus, AS Roma, and Fiorentina.

Let's pray for a miracle and that AC MILAN can go back to their favorite scenario and WINNING not only the Champions League but also the Scudetto this year.  It will be a well deserved good bye for our living legend Captain Paolo Maldini.  Don't you think?

Dear twin, I’m here. I was studying. I have final on Friday. I see you guys are enjoying your pizza. I’m sorry though about our Milan because they still won't be able to play in the CL. In a way I would rather our Milan to qualify on its own merits.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. You are correct the rule does state that it is the highest ranked team that gets the champions league spot. Milan is the highest ranked team currently outside of the champions league.

So, my friend, let's shake hands man for this wonderful news. You got that right our Milan is the highest ranking and by all means man, we deserve that spot in the Champs, don't you think?

At least we know our good buddy interista Mark is praying for us, unbelievable right. Though, it is a personal thing we have going on in the blog between interisti and milanisti, this month is peace treaty because we are all supporuting our Italian National team, then, back to business to opposite sides, right Mark? What's your take?

Man, thanks for admitting that our father Ancelotti is the best right now. I know you are happy with the news toto despite being an Interista because you have said it clearly before that you want to challenge us in the Champions League. So, my friend since we are still with a peace treaty, let's order a big pizza, get some red wine, and get together for a pizza and pray later for the miracle. Anna, where are you? Join us too, we will get Pepperoni pizza your favorite... and Nina? Maybe she is at church with milan99 praying already for this big miracle.

Sorry to disappoint you, but UEFA regulations stipulate that, when such an event as this happens, the replacement team comes from the same nation. So it won't be Milan, but Levski Sofia.

Guys I hate to break up the party, but I thought I read that the Bulgarian football federation was given the choice to pick the second team in the league in place of CSKA Sofia so if that is true; Milan will not play in the CL. This means that Levski Sofia will play in the CL instead of Milan. I was filled with joy for a moment there.i could be wrong though,so we will wait for Anna's verdict.Anna where are you ?

Guys, we have two rules against us.No way Milan will play in Cl. Even if we qualify under article 1.07, article 1.01 disqualifies us.No country can have more than 4 teams in Cl.

Question: what would have happened if Milan had won the CL. but still have come in 5th place in league play? I may be wrong on this one but doesn't the winners of the CL. get an automatic birth into the tournament? What becomes of article 1.01 does that mean that the 4th place team would lose out on CL? Again I might be wrong about the automatic qualification for the CL winners.

Paul you are right Milan would have qualified to the Cl if they were the title holder, but the catch is that Fiorentina which is the club with lowest uefa rankings among the 4 that have qualified this year would be playing in uefa cup instead of Milan. This law was added after the Liverpool failing to qualify to the Cl despite being title holders. That year uefa a made an exception for 5 English teams to play in The Cl. To avoid this again, they modified the rule. Here is article 1.01 in full.

The UEFA Champions League title-holder is guaranteed a place in the group
stage even if it does not qualify for the competition through its domestic
              championship.
              a) If the title-holder comes from an association entitled to more than one
place in the UEFA Champions League and qualifies for the UEFA Cup
through its domestic competitions, the lowest-ranked club of the
association’s UEFA Champions League representatives is automatically
transferred to the UEFA Cup. In this case, the number of places to which
the title-holder's national association is entitled in the UEFA Champions
League and the UEFA Cup does not change.

Nina thanks for the clarification of the rules. Milan will just have to go out and win the Scudetto and UEFA Cup next year. I may be wrong but I believe that the UEFA Cup is practically, one of the only trophies Milan haven't won

I thought i would share these UEFA regulations with you guys.

•Article 1.01 and Article 1.07 are the reason Milan can't play in CL next season.

UEFA member associations may enter a certain number of clubs for the
competition, in accordance with their position in the coefficient rankings in
Annex Ia, drawn up in accordance with Annex II of these regulations.
However, no association may enter more than four clubs for the competition(Italy has Inter, Roma,Juve, and Fiorentina).
These rankings also determine the stage at which clubs join the competition

1.07 A club which is not admitted to the competition shall be replaced by the next
Best-placed club in the top domestic league championship of the same
National association(meaning the team has to be from the same country) provided it fulfills the admission criteria. In this case, the
Access list for the UEFA Club Competitions (Annex Ia) will be adjusted
    accordingly.

Don't you just hate these rules.

Very sorry to break the bad news, guys. Just think of Porto though: they were booted out of the Cl next season by UEFA and will be replaced by the next team in the Portuguese League. The same happened to you in 06/07 didn't it? UEFA decided to boot you out after the Calciopoli scandal? A point to remember here is that they did let you back in on appeal.

At the end of the day, if UEFA don't kick a team out, the national FA can. And if a national FA can, they have the right to replace their representative with another team from their country.

It's breakfast time here - cold pizza anyone?
