Italian Soccer Serie A supports 100% the Italian National team!

Let's build up our support for the Italian National Team by covering their first meeting in Coverciano, Florence.

  • Yes! 19 of the 24 players called up for the Italian National team met today at noon to start the schedule for training camp towards EURO 2008!  I am waving my Italian flag proudly, are you?
  • First training 5:30 p.m.  Open to the press
  • Press Conference with Donadoni and 2 players
The remaining 5 players including Lyon defender Fabio Grosso who played the final with his team yesterday in France. Plus 4  Roma players: midfielders Simone Perrotta, Daniele De Rossi, Alberto Aquilani, and defender Christian Panucci who played the Coppa Italia Final yesterday will arrive in Coverciano at 11 p.m. and miss the first training. That's the minimum Donadoni could do, imagine, Roma players   barely had time to celebrate late because they had to be well alert today in Coverciano.

Final Italian National Team List still in progress

Out of the 24 called up players, Donadoni will submit the official list  of 23 players to UEFA on Thursday, May 29.  Wondering who will be the one staying?

In other words, Donadoni has 4 days to test all 24 players and see who will be the one staying. Guys, it will be a tough training for all 24 players to secure their position.

Just as Donadoni said,

"All 24 players will have to fight for their spot in the team.  It's not an easy decision. It's not going to be fun for anyone. I try to put myself in their shoes; it's not fun to know that you are one of the 24, but then you have to go home. Everyone should feel they have the same chances."

TRAINING Italian National  Soccer Team

According to the Italian National Team schedule from May 25 to June 2, 2008, first training is scheduled today at 5:30 p.m.  It will be the first training session from 7 scheduled until May 29 when Donadoni will make his selection and submit the official 23 players before noon to UEFA for the EURO 2008.

First Friendly Match  Italy - Belgium

May 30 - Final test a friendly match in Florence at the Artemio Franchi Stadium against Belgium at 8:45 p.m. then, meeting next day on Sunday at the Grand Hotel Malpensa to head in the morning to Vienna and Baden.

Which player will be eliminated from the original called up list?  a striker? a midfielder? a defender?

hey, Materazzi needs to rest, get some sleep as well as the Roma players, the match yesterday was so intense. I think it will be either Quagliarella or Cassano to stay.

That's true, Roma players must be exhausted after beating Inter and having a fair celebration. Training starts at 5:30 p.m. and Roma players and Materazzi will miss this training. So they will start training with the group until tomorrow.

Most likely, Quagliarella will stay. The shocking news will be if Donadoni leaves Cassano after all the turmoil created by choosing him instead of Inzaghi.

I can't believe the Italy team has their training camp for the EURO 2008 so late in the month. Almost a week after Portugal. I think Spain is the last one, they start training tomorrow.
As for the "sacrificial lamb" I think it will be a midfielder- the one from the sub-21 Riccardo Montolivo. I don't see Donadoni taking off the list a forward, nor a defender. Vediamo!

Yes, it took forever because we barely finished the Serie A and would have not make sense to start ealier when there were crucial matches in the very last match, such as the scudetto and hte 4th position for the preliminaries of the Champions League.

Portugal started way early. Hopefully, you guys will do fine, but I don't think Portugal is a strong team to say they are among the candidates to win the EURO 2008. What do you think?

I agree with you. Little Montolivo would be the one left behind. Does that mean he is too late to catch up with the Azzurrini? I hope not. He would be very useful to Casaraghi and Co in their quest for an Olympic medal. I don't see Don leaving Cassano;it would defeat the purpose of selecting him in the first place.

It will be late already to catch up. Exactly, it would be contradictory for Donadoni creating all that fuzz for Cassano to leave him out. Yet, Montolivo out? Hum? I am more for Quagliarella to be out.

I'm good as long as my crazy Cassano is not left behind. I know you guys don't like him, but rest assured Cassano will make you all swallow your words after the tournament. ha ahaha ha ha.I hope there is psychiatrist, and a priest in the Azzurri camp though.
