Although Inter won the Serie A Scudetto, the Roman gladiators put up a strong front and beat Inter winning the Coppa Italia for the ninth time today, Sunday May 24 in the 60th edition of the Coppa Italia! Juventus and Roma now have 9 Coppa each and next year one of these teams might win the first historical "Silver Star" A team requires 10 victories to be the first one to write their name in history!

Forza Roma, You made it! Photo:
At the end of the match, the great Roman gladiator and Captain Francesco Totti lift the Coppa Italia with his teammates after Italy President Napolitano handed it to them. The joy explodes at the Olimpico while Inter players resigned themselves again, like last year, to win only the Scudetto without being able to beat Roma in La Coppa Italia.
Here are a group of Inter fans before the match cheering for Inter. I included the photo for the joy of all Inter fans, especially our commentator Mark!

Interesting how during the national anthem "Fratelli d'Italia, l'imno di Mamelli" Roma fans whistled Inter players when shown in the big screen and even whistling Referee Emidio Morganti!
I took this photo of a Roman gladiator from the TV while watching the match on Rai Italia. I love it! Don't you? This is why I love Roma, seeing all that devotion as true gladiator! What a pose guys. This was before the beginning of match.

Click the Video to watch the highlights of La Coppa Italia, Italy Cup between Roma and Inter.Referee Emidio Morganti grants a corner to Roma.
David Pizarro takes the corner and seeing a good spot where French defender Philippe Mexes was all alone sends the assist. There he comes, Mexes scoring his second goal of the season. Mexes opens the score in the 36th minute to the joy of thousands of Roma fans at the Olimpico di Roma while Captain Totti observed with joy!
Look at Mexes blasting Inter goalkeeper Francesco Toldo while Cesar and David Suazo observed astonished! Mexes takes Roma by the hand to a good start. Guys, this is an important goal and great motivation for the Roman gladiators. Forza Mexes!
AS ROMA 1 - 0 FC INTER
Here our great defender Philippe Mexes thanks the fans after scoring the opening goal!
Bravo Mexes!!!!! Photo credit: Reuters

In the 54th minute, it is the time for one of the most representative Roman symbol, midfielder Simone Perrotta to score!!! What a goal!
AS ROMA 2 - 0 FC INTER
Here is a photo I took form the TV when Perrotta celebrated his goal! Sei forte PERROTTA! I am in heaven because Perrotta is among my favorite players! Thumbs up gladiator!

This is a great moment for Perrotta. Here is midfielder Ludovic Giuly rushing to congratulate Perrotta for this important goal that could be worth LA COPPA ITALIA! Perrotta is among the called up players for the Italian National team and being observed from the tribune by Italian head coach Roberto Donadoni. Way to go Perrotta. Hope Donadoni includes him in the starting line up!
Inter tried to equalize the match to no avail. Yet, in the 61st minute a superb goal from Pele gave some ray of hope to the thousand Inter fans.
AS ROMA 2 - 1 FC INTER

The moment when PELE blasts the Roman Gladiators and goalkeeper DONI. Unbelievable 6 gladiators
and not able to stop this goal! Amazing! Way to go Pele! Photo credit: Ansa

Pele celebrates his goal with a great shout!!!!!
Just at the end of the match.
Good and bad thing was not seeing striker Hernan Crespo since the starting line up so he won't be blame for Inter's defeat. Crespo entered until the 90th minute substituting his connazionale Captain Javier Zanetti. Imagine, until the 90th minute, what could he had done in only 2 minutes? Was Roberto Mancini out of his mind by making a late substitution? He should have changed earlier. Don't you think?
This photo from David Suazo says everything. INTER "Italy's Champions" have fallen at the Olimpico Stadium beaten by the Roman gladiators with all their might. Photo credit: afp

Any way, match is over. Roma won and it's time to grant the awards, "LA COPPA ITALIA 2007 - 2008 to AS ROMA."
Here is Italy President Napolitano giving the COPPA ITALIA to the Roman gladiators. Photo credit: Ansa

You did it guys! Go on and celebrate because you deserve it! All of you! Thanks Roma, THANKS ROMA
Grande Totti!!!!!! Un bacione da noi... siete forti ragazzi! Forza Roma

Wow, I have goosebumps just looking at the happy face from our SUPER TOTTI lifting the Coppa Italia!
Like saying, "Are you kidding me, I won't let it go to Inter, this one belongs to us, to all ROMA!!!"

I took this photo from the TV where everybody wanted to get Super Totti's words on winning La Coppa Italia!!! Totti is wearing the medal here and he was so happy not only for him but for all Roma fans as he indicated. Winning at the Olimpico was important for all the fans, Totti, this is great for our
Roma fans commentators Suri, Kenntak, Monica08, Nina, Pietro, Milan99, Dominic, and myself!!!

At the end my friends, Inter and Roma fans went home peacefully waving their flags with honor!
Well done Inter and Roma.
You bet the most popular player in Roma is none other than Captain Totti! Look at the different t-shirts!

Great victory for the giallorossi and Super Totti will be more than happy. I am in heaven guys, what else could I have asked for? I was cheering for Roma and they gave me this great joy!

Congrats to Roma the true champs of Italy.Roma Roma Roma core de sta citta unico grande Amore de tanta e tanta gente che fa sospira. I can hear monica singing this one all the way from curva sud, or how about Grazie Roma che ci fai piangere abbracciati ancora. Girl, how did you know the final result. Like you said it was 2-1.whoever said italian football is dull and defensive should watch Roma play;they made us all proud. You just gotta love this team.Mark, i'm sure even you will have to agree on this one. You can't deny Roma outplayed inter left and right. Forza roma, the best team in italy.i will call few inter fans to get on their nerves and than i will post what i thought about the players, the match, and all that other stuff.long live the roman wolves!!!!!!
Reply to this
My thoughts on the game
Roma outplayed inter specially the first half were it was basically all Roma.
Inter came back the second half and had some good chances, but still Roma were the better team throughout the match. Mexes and Perrotta goals were beautiful, but Pele goal was the best goal of the match for me.
The best player of the match: it is hard to pick, the entire roma midfield, but if had to pick just one player it would have to be Mexes. He played superiorly both defensively and offensively.
The worst player of the match: it would be a tie between Cesar Rodriguez and Patrick Veira from inter. Especially Patrick viera who I thought was on purpose trying to break someone’s leg. Every time I turned around there he was tackling Roma player from the back. Balotelli was doing the same thing too
I liked the great sportsmanship towards the end when the players got ready to take their medals. It was nice to see inter players laughing and joking with Roma players. It was also nice to see totti lift the cup. The best sub was brighi and I don’t know what mancini was thinking about bringing in crespo for the final play of the match, why not play him from the start, hello this is crespo. It just further proves that spalletti is the better coach. With a little bit of cash this team could be the best team in Europe. Forza roma

Reply to this
Pierto, everyone seemed to have disappeared specially a certain inter fan who usually brags about his team being the champs of Italy. you know who lol. What did you think about Burdisso and Vucinic being sent off? It is sad to see red cards especially after the peace cries from the two captains prior to the game. i wished Viera was sent off,he deserved it. Aqaulani, perrotta, casseti, pizzaro, mexes,DDr,all the team was awesome.
Reply to this
Man, that was bad because both captains did their best to keep a good match, burdisso usually doesn't lose his temper, Vucinic yes, bad the good thing is that we won girl!
where is Mark, he must have a stomach ache right now ale ael ale ale

Headache, try heartache, we should probably be easy on our only interista. You are right I was shocked about burdisso and what pissed about vucinic was how he treated zannetti who was just trying to break up the fight. What matter is that we won.

I only got to watch part of the match, but I am very happy my Roma team won again. I hope they reach 10 next year!!! I would have preferred the Scudetto, but winning the Coppa and denying Inter a double was great!!!
By the way, I was looking at the post-game pictures, and it looks like players are wearing a different jersey. Is that the 2008/2009 jersey?

Of course we all have preferences, and I see you have a good one too. I love Argentinean football. I used to like Brazil, not lately though. The South Americans play the most creative, and fun football ever. In Italy and in Europe in general is more tactical. That is why I liked players like Zola and Baggio who played more latino style football.

So what is the story with the Matrix and Milan99? Not trying to stir up old feud. I’m just trying to catch up. Anyone?
Reply to this
Well Nina listen to a long , I love soccer so much true I'm a new fan got into the beautiful sport because of my bro, I started by becoming a fan of Chelsea,so in love with hernan Crespo! then when he moved on to Inter,I'm expected to become a Inter fan and believe it or not I was(hear it everyone) but after watching the Italian League and following the news I started to get into Milan, so yeah Milan fan from 2006 season. about Materazzi I don't like the way he acts and say a lot of bad words. specially what happened in the world cup!!!(sorry for such a long story)
Reply to this
Thank you for the update Milan99.I'm not siding with Materazzi, but did you read about the English newspaper that admitted to fabricating a lot of the nasty comments which we were all lead to believe Materazzi said? He sued them and they even had to publish a formal apology. Check out this website when you have a minute, and this is the second apology this year. You would be surprised how many lies are said in the media. Of course this doesn’t justify his behavior in the world cup, but it is good to hear all sides of the story. Having said that, I think Materazzi based on his performance this season should have lost his place in the azzurri, and I hope he is not in the starting lineup of any important game.

Bothe players being Zidane and Materazzi acted foolishly especially when so many kids look up to them. On a more pleasant note, late welcome to the Milan family; you made the right choice. Forza Milan

WELL NINA I DON'T THINK ZIDANE DONE WHAT HE DID FOR FUN THERE GOT TO BE A REASON, NO ONE OTHER THAN ZIDANE, MATERAZZI AND GOD WHO KNOWS! I GOT TO AGREE IT WAS FOOLISH BUT I STILL LOVE ZIDANE'S HE ALWAYS BEHAVED WELL I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPEN, OPPOSITE TO MATERAZZI!
I WON'T EVER FORGIVE HIM FOR THAT! I GOT NICE SPORTSMANSHIP!!!

Milan99, i know what you mean, Materazzi himself did not deny and admitted that he was wrong, and believe me I was not trying to make excuses for the guy. I was just letting you know that there is more to the story than what news papers published. The racist comments are for sure a lie, but like you said he must have said something. As for Zidane always behaving right, I disagree; he brutally stepped all over a Saudi Arabian player in 98 world cup so I know he can get out control sometimes. I will try to find the match so you can see for yourself. He is no angel and received a red card for that burtal attack in 98, and repeated it again in 2006. Violence is never the answer,no matter what anyone says. Anyhow, I don’t want to upset you so I’ll leave Zidane alone.
Reply to this
To the defense of Materazzi!!! Here I come guys. Materazzi might not be a good boy like Kaka or Zanetti because he has a bad temper, but Zidane was rightly sent off.
I agree with Nina and seem milan99 doesn't know a thing about Zidane not so angelic behavior. It is is true he was sent off for a bad attack.
Angels in soccer I will say Maldini, Zanetti, Kaka, Buffon.
FORZA INTER

Materazzi is very controversial but like Anna says when it comes to the Nazionale, we all should support our players despite our club preferences. Don't you think?
