Which 3 Serie A teams Would you be least upset if they were relegated?

By Guest Writer Kenntak

Out of the following teams, which 3 would you be least upset if they were relegated?

Serie A Standings up to Week 34

                                           14. Catania
                                           15. Cagliari
                                           16. Torino
                                           17. Parma
                                           18. Livorno
                                           19. Empoli
                                           20. Reggina

As much as I love the Tuscan teams, and as much as I would hate to see another Southern Italian team go, I would have to go with Empoli, Livorno and Reggina.

I think it is important to keep Torino and Catania because of the interesting derbies with Juventus and Palermo, respectively. In addition, Torino has been in Serie A a total of 67 seasons, with only 4 other teams having been in Serie A longer. They have been champions of Serie A 7 times, although their last championship was won back in 1976. Catania has only been in Serie A a total of 11 seasons, but with the relegation of Messina to Serie B and the possible relegation of Reggina, there needs to be a good Southern Italian/Sicilian rivalry. In fact, it is unfortunate that Southern Italy is not very well represented in Serie A as a whole.

Surprisingly, Reggina has only been in Serie A a total of 8 seasons. Reggina, like Catania, has not won any titles or cups yet. I feel that if Reggina is relegated, they would have one of the better chances of returning to Serie A in two seasons.

I think it is important to keep Cagliari because of its unique location, fan support, and the island derby with Sicily. Cagliari has played in Serie A for 29 seasons, and actually won the Scudetto in 1970. Although having only played in Serie A 18 seasons, Parma won the UEFA cup twice, the Coppa Italia 3 times and the Italian Super Cup once. Parma was runners up to the Scudetto in 1996-1997. Because of its storied history, I would not want Parma to be relegated.

Livorno has been in Serie A for 16 seasons and Empoli for 9 seasons. Neither has won any honors yet. In addition, Empoli is a small town, and attendance at the Serie A games is often under 8,0000 people, which is very low. Attendance at the Livorno games is better, but still is often a little over 10,000 people. Empoli and Livorno have the worst attendance of the above 7 teams.

It looks like Chievo and Bologna are leading the race to come up to Serie A next season. I never thought Chievo would have been relegated last season, but they are making a quick return.

I appreciate your thoughts on this matter.

Man, congrats Kenntak! What a pleasant news this morning to see your post for the first time. My thoughts? Man, i think Torino did not make merits to stay in the Serie A despite their historical record as you mentioned, rather have Cagliari for their amazing recovery from the bottom to the 15th position.

Empoli, also disappointed me, they started well and now almost in the bottom? Livorno? another upset especially for having second goalkeeper of the nazionale Amelia.

I will be least upset to see these 3 teams relegated: Torino, Reggina, and Livorno. Maybe Empoli?

Pietro, I join you to say it is a pleasant news to see Kenntak writing for the first time as a guest writer. WELCOME Kenntak!!!

As for the 3 teams that I would be least upset if going for relegation are:

    Catania
    Reggina
    Livorno

    Empoli? wow... how about GIOVINCO????
They have the "youngest teams" and future of Italian football.... I rather keep them in the Serie A not relegated.

Between Livorno and Empoli, I rather see Livorno out. Though, it won't make sense as they have Italy's second goalkeeper AMELIA!

It will be an upset to see TORINO relegated, though, I agree with Pietro that they did not make enough merits to be in the Serie A. Yet, it would be an upset because AIMO DIANA who transfered from Palermo will be in Serie B, as well as all the ex palermitani????

    Kenntak, thumbs up for you!

The 3 teams I will be least upset if heading to relegation are Catania, Reggina, and Livorno. It is tough because like Pietro and Anna, I struggle to the idea of goalkeeper Amelia in Serie B and with the nazionale?

Thanks for the kudos. Relegation is a tough thing, you hate to see teams go, but it gives a chance for other teams to show what they can do in Serie A. It's hard to believe that Fiorentina was in division C2 not too long ago.

Fiorentina right now is doing well. How about Parma going to the Serie B?

That's very possible. It almost happened last year, I recall they were in the relegation zone most of the season, but were saved during the last couple of weeks.

Kenntak, i think Torino wasted the chance to do better this year. Man, Recoba was a disaster, and Rosina not able to do miracles by himself despite being that good. I think if they lose this weekend, they might go down to the B and well deserved. What's your take?
