In the Battle for the 4th Position to grasp a spot for the UEFA Champions League next year, the four contenders are Fiorentina, Milan, Sampdoria, and Udinese.

Fiorentina today beat Palermo and keeps the 4th position with 59 points.  If Milan beat tomorrow Reggina, the difference between Fiorentina and Milan will be 4 points.

FIORENTINA, although suffering, could manage to win at the Artemio Franchi and their dream to be in the Champions League is getting closer.

I was expecting a goal from striker Adrian Mutu or Giampaolo Pazzini.  Yet, guys, it was Marco Donadel giving hope to Fiorentina fans  to dream with the Champions League.

In the 29th minute, Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu sends an assist to midfielder Marco Donadel who shoots from outside the box directly to the bottom left corner blasting Palermo goalkeeper Agliardi.
Fiorentina 1 - 0 PALERMO

Wow, that was a major blow for the 3 remaining contenders for the 4th position: Milan, Udinese, and Sampdoria.

With Donadel's goal, Fiorentina keep their 4th position very tight.

Absolutely, Fiorentina fans at the Artemio Franchi don't give a damn about the rest.  It was a total celebration for them.  Their dreams to be in the Champions League is becoming closer.

In the 70th minute, Pazzini missed a great chance to close the match after getting an assist by Adrian Mutu.

In the 72nd minute, ufffa, a tragedy for Palermo!  Referee Antonio Damato gives a second yellow card to
Palermo defender Leandro Rinaudo for committing a foul.  RINAUDO gets the RED CARD !!!! Wow, just when Palermo needed to pressure more to equalize the match, it remains with 10 players!!!!!!

Fiorentina takes advantage immediately by attacking and creating goal opportunities ... but not converting.

In the 73rd minute, Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli decides to substitute Giampaolo Pazzini, who looks tired.  Taking his place is striker Christian Vieri.

In the 74th minute, Adrian Mutu shoots from outside the box to the bottom right corner and is saved!!!!!   Vieri, then, shoots from close range and missed the target!

In the 80th minute, Mattia Cassani sends an assist to AMAURI who heads the ball from the center of the box to the top center only to be saved!!!   Palermo keeps trying but Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey is a firm wall!!!!

Sadly for Palermo, Referee Antonio Damato whistles the end of the match.  Fiorentina, my friends, though with 1 goal, could beat Palermo!  Now, it is up to Milan, Udinese, and Sampdoria to win their respective matches if wanting to keep the dreams for the Champions League alive.  Fiorentina is not letting go....

Amauri and Miccoli were not enough to grasp this victory for Palermo neither a draw.
