77' Fabio Quagliarella
Substitutions:
Challenge was for Fiorentina to beat Udinese to secure the fourth position and qualify for the UEFA Champions League Season. As Milan keeps right behind Fiorentina with 4 points difference, if Milan would have beaten Atalanta the difference between Fiorentina and Milan would have been 1 point. Luckily for Fiorentina, Milan SO SHAMEFULLY lost in San Siro against Atalanta. AC MILAN 1 - 2 ATALANTA I woke up at 5 a.m. to follow the match live in Rai International with La Giostra del Gol. I've got my Cappuccino ready to enjoy this match. Let me tell you, I was happy with the result because I predicted Udinese's victory on my SERIE A Week 31 PREVIEW.
I must say UDINESE won super convincingly!
This victory puts them in the FOURTH position with 50 points! It means that AC MILAN with 49 points not only has to battle against Fiorentina with 53 points , but also has to deal with Udinese who are 1 point ahead of the rossoneri.
Problem for Fiorentina is the "ADRIAN MUTU DEPENDENCY." It seems that Fiorentina cannot manage to win without Adrian Mutu! Mutu was out for suspension.
The other observation is that the FRIULI STADIUM proved to be a curse for the VIOLA because last time they beat Udinese in Friuli was in October 2001, that time Fiorentina won 2-1!!!! Unbelievable, almost 7 years!!! Today, my friends it was all UDINESE!
I was happy with the performance of strikers Antonio Di Natale and Fabio Quagliarella.
First, I thought Fiorentina was going to open the score with striker Giampaolo Pazzini.
In the 11th minute, Massimo Gobbi sends a cross to Pazzini who shoots from the center of the box but the ball went too high!!! Gee, I almost dropped my Cappuccino! I like Pazzini but for strategic reasons, as a Milan fan, I was cheering for Udinese. So, it was just an alarm. No goals yet.
Then guys, in the 12th minute, one of my favorite Udinese strikers FABIO QUAGLIARELLA shoots to the net only to be blocked a minute later when Giandomenico Mesto sends him a cross. Shoot!
Good thing was that immediately, in the 13th minute, Gokhan Inler shoots from outside the box directly to the top right corner blasting the net of Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey! Now, my friends, it was party time!
UDINESE 1 - 0 FIORENTINA
- First half ended 1 -0 for Udinese.
In the 58th minute, Udinese striker Antonio "TOTO" Di Natale almost scored the second goal when shooting from outside the box to the bottom right corner but it was saved!!!!!
By now, Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli decides to try "Striker Christian Vieri." In the 59th minute, Prandelli substitute Martin Jorgensen and Christian Vieri was in.
Just four minutes after entering, BOBO VIERI equalized the score!!!! Unbelievable! Wow, even if I was cheering for Udinese, seeing VIERI scoring gave me so much joy!!!! He is one of the best of Italian football.
Well, in the 62nd minute, striker Giampaolo Pazzini shoots from close range to the bottom left corner and it's saved! So, there is a corner for Fiorentina conceded by Udinese goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.
Here it's where Super Bobo Vieri came to action. In the 63rd minute, Pazzini heads a pass to Christian Vieri who also with a "head" heads the ball from close range to the top left corner where goalkeeper Handanovic could not stop the ball!
UDINESE 1 - 1 FIORENTINA

This was not a good result for Milan who were losing in San Siro by 2 goals! Point for Milan was to win and Udinese beat Fiorentina.
Salvation came in the 72nd minute! Gokhan Inler who already scored the first goal for Udinese, sends a pass to striker Antonio Di Natale shooting from the center box to the bottom left corner! Wow.... the ball blasted Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey to the joy of UDINESE FANS and MILAN FANS! Sadly, Milan was still losing by 2 goals in San Siro. So, either Milan hurry up to catch up or equalize the match with Atalanta or there is no point for Udinese to beat Fiorentina because Udinese will be in 5th position and Milan going to the 6th position if the score continue like this.
UDINESE 2 - 1 FIORENTINA
Final relief came few minutes later. Although Quagliarella had an early attempt to score in teh 76th minute when getting a cross from Andrea Dossena only to be saved. It was in the 77th minute, that QUAGLIARELLA shoots from close range directly to the center of the goal blasting an already disappointed goalkeeper Frey!
wow, I could not believe it! Udinese was doing their job! In my Preview, I mentioned that they should beat Udinese but Milan also beat Atalanta to shorten the distance with Fiorentina for the 4th position to have a spot in the Champions League next Season. Milan still losing in San Siro!!!! Guys, I was going nuts making all kind of calculations!!!!
UDINESE 3 - 1 FIORENTINA
News from San Siro arrives in the 85th minute when Captain Paolo Maldini made a goal to shorten the distance. It was AC MILAN 1 - 2 ATALANTA
Best thing to happen was for UDINESE to keep this victory and Milan to hurry up and equalize the score to arrive to 50 points same as with Udinese.
Oh well, I must tell you that while Udinese concluded with a convincing victory, Milan SHAMEFULLY lost in San Siro. Milan could not even equalized the score when granted a penalty kick! Midfielder Andrea Pirlo penalty was saved by Atalanta goalkeeper!!!!! That was the end of the match!!!!
With this result, Fiorentina keeps the 4th position, Udinese went from6th position to the 5th position!!!! OUCH! Milan now has a huge battle with only 7 more matches. So, nothing is defined yet between Udinese, Fiorentina, and Milan.
Congrats to UDINESE for the great match!

Udinese did us the favor to beat Fiorentina, man, but Milan forgot that they needed to beat Atalanta to shorten the distance. I can't believe Milan wasted 3 points at home and now we are even in 6th place!

Did Manuel Da Costa sit on the bench?
He was called up for the under21 qualifying match. How often is he playing with Fiorentina? I think he needs to go to a club where he can play more often.

Ricardo15, Manuel Da Costa was on the bench but not used. I think Prandelli is adjusting the team and see how to use Da Costa. I noticed that Portuguese players, at least in this season with the exception of Figo, rarely plays complete matches. Sometimes, they are among the called up but end up seating on the bench like the case of Roma defender Antunes. What do you think of this situation?

Ricardo15, I added now the "SUBS not used."

I don't think enough.
Hope He moves to another club to play more often.

I did not watch this game, but it sure seems like a convincing win for Udinese. I am not so surprised by the victory, just the margin of victory.

Kenntak you missed a good match but you can see the highlights here in the post. By the way, thank you Anna for posting the video too.
Udinese played to win and Di Natale and Quagliarella had a great combination match. Admit it or not, Fiorentina depends on MUTU just like Milan depends on Kaka, Roma on Totti, my Inter on Ibrahimovic, Genoa on Borriello. Don't you think guys?

Yes, Mutu does at a spark, I like watching him play. I do think Fiorentina is a class act team though, Prandelli is doing a great job.
