Results Week 21 Italian Serie A: JUVENTUS 1 - 1 CAGLIARI Goals by Nedved and Bianco "Another disappointing performance in the Olimpico"

By Anna Italia

The Old Lady Could Not Beat the Worst Team of the Serie A

                             FC Juventus 1  -  1  CAGLIARI

Substitutions:
'46 Palladino out, Camoranesi in        16' Lopez out, Canini in
'67 Tiago out, Sissoko in                     46' Pasquale Foggia out, Cossu in

What's going on with Juventus? Is it time to take a moment of reflection and reprogram their winning mentality to find the Juventus style? Honestly, it has been about a month since the "stile juventus" seems to be on vacation.  Ah, but before you make your conclusions, let me specify that Saint Goalkeeper GIGI Buffon has not been playing in the last 3 matches. Am I saying that Juve has lost because Buffon was not the goalkeeper? Yes and No.

I cannot believe how Juventus, who is in the third position of the Serie A Standing could not beat Cagliari who is in the very last position of the table!  Is it that Cagliari is improving technically, or is it that Juventus just lose the motivation to return to their historical glory? If you know the answer, be my guest, and let me know.

Fact is that just when everybody expected Juventus' victory in their home stadium, Cagliari goalkeeper MARCO STORARI put a stop to Juve strikers.  By the way, Storari just arrived last month from the Spanish team Levante. Oh well, this brings me back to Saint Goalkeeper Gigi Buffon who is still out for injury.

Clearly, Juventus defense is in bad shape and the one key man to avoid big defeats is none other than Buffon, period.  Second goalkeeper Emanuele Belardi is good, but he even admitted is no easy cake to substitute Buffon. Honey, you don't have to convince me about this.  Yet, let me give credit to BELARDI because he made great saves today.

The first half ended 0 - 0. So, both coaches made their strategic changes and second half was more challenging.

In the 46th minute, Juventus Coach Claudio Ranieri substitutes Palladino for the Argentinian Mauro Camoranesi.

Freezing the Olimpico and Juventus players, Cagliari opened the score in the 55th minute with defender Bianco. Just when Cagliari fans were still celebrating their partial victory, a minute later, there it comes the "pareggio."  Midfielder Pavel Nedved equalized the score in the 56th minute!

Belardi did two great saves on Larrivey and Canini saving Juventus from a humiliating defeat.

Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri substituted Portuguese Tiago for the newly signed Sissoko in the 67th minute.

I think Juventus failed in the midfield area.  I wonder why Ranieri waited until the 67th minute to make his second substitution. Why not making a third substitution too?  Sad to see forwards Alessandro Del Piero and David Trezeguet defeated. This time neither could deliver the winning goal. This makes me sad. (Ci tenevo tanto.)

Anna i don't know the answer about where is the stile juventus. This result really disappointed me, losing against the last team of the table? I will agree that Buffon is a fundamental part, if not the main player for Juventus not going down the tube. Let me put it this way, Roma losing against a weaker team, that is Siena, and Juve a draw with Cagliari, means that there are no small teams neither a granted victory for favoritism. What's your take?

Yeah I guess Inter is the winner with no challenge from both Juve and Roma

No, I don't agree with you Milan99. I think there still a challenge from Roma. I agree with Pietro that "there are no small teams neither a granted victory."

Inter was the strongest one on paper, but it seems Empoli showed them how not to fool around the small teams neither assume an easy victory. Now, how is that Pietro and Milan99?

I didn't see the game and was quite shocked about the result when I came home! Huge setback and disgrace after the convincing 3:1 away win in Livorno!

Is it true that Ranieri said he was "satisfied with the result"? I've just read it in the Juve forum on bigsoccer.com ... and simply can't believe it! What drugs did he take?

At least Milan defeated Fiorentina, so we are 4 points ahead of them now (I feel that Fiorentina will be our main rival for a CL spot and not Milan).

Juventino Tedesco, imagine if you consider this a disgrace, SO AM I. You know how I feel about Juve -- a favorite after my MILAN. Hearing RANIERI that he was satisfied also outraged me more!!! We had the same thought, I was wondering is he on something, what drug to say that he was satisfied!

OUCHHHHHH just don't like your last part about Fiorentina being your main rival and not MY MILAN. ouch! ouch!

      Forza Milan!

Hey Anna, I think you misunderstood me!!

I mean that Fiorentina is our main rival in the fight for a CL spot, since I am pretty sure that Milan will be among the top 4 teams in the end. Therefore a Fiorentina defeat wasn't bad for Juve...

        Hai capito?

        Buona notte.

Hi to all juve fans all over the world i love you all. Now about my love juventus i got a tell you im not appreciatting the tactis of mr ranieri. the old juve under capello and the man i want to come back to juve my hero is lippi for real is patience in the game dont go on all attack mode you got a sit back be displine at the back and counterattack that way it opens up the other team defense look at what happened against sampdoria game? but i understand we dont have the same kind of players in defense and midfield like before but mr ranieri you got to put a strong agressive CDM like emerson along side zanetti whom impressed me a lot with the way he plays. This juve under ranieri passes the ball too much while under capello it was balanced and boring which i dont mind but very affective. I need to enjoy life again and smile to the people so please juve start wininng.

Welcome Juve Moroccan! Glad to know that you also share my thought on Ranieri's tactics. Juve can play "an offensive plan, but also NEED to protect the defense." This is what I have been saying all along. I totally understand you when saying "So please juve start winning," because it is the same I used to say about MILAN. After Milan, my favorite teams are Juventus and Roma. Let's see how Juve do in the weekend, hopefully, a victory, right?
