Do you think KAKA can be Milan's Captain after Paolo Maldini or who do you think can be Maldini's replacement as captain Gattuso, Nesta, Ambrosini?

By Anna Italia

Undoubtedly, Captain Paolo Maldini has no comparison, and it will be a major challenge for anybody taking the role as Milan's captain.  Not only Maldini has been a top captain inside the field, but also a great symbol for Milan outside the field.  Since his debut on January 20, 1985 Udinese 1 - 1 AC Milan, Maldini has only played for one team, the one he loves and the one where his father Cesare played and coached:  AC MILAN.

The big question is who will be the next captain when Maldini leaves AC Milan
.

Some fans say that Gennaro Gattuso can be the ideal captain for his grinta, drive, determination, and motivational spirit in the field. Problem with Gattuso, and he even admits it, is that it will be difficult to control his temper.

Others think midfielder Massimo Ambrosini can be Maldini's substitute.

In fact, Ambrosini usually takes the captain role when Maldini does not play. I like Ambrosini's gentleman attitude and assertive presence.

The next candidate is KAKA, the young symbol of AC MILAN.  After winning the 2007 Golden Ball Award Kaka confirmed his desire to be Milan's captain.  "I believe that I'm already a leader inside the team, but I would like to become the captain, the flag of this team."

I think Kaka will be a good captain, but contrary to Gattuso who has shown consistent determination to defend Milan, Kaka's controversial remarks about leaving or not leaving, makes me feel a little bit confused about his possible appointment.

How about Alessandro Nesta? Nesta has been a great leader in Milan and a key player. Nesta formerly was Lazio's captain. Can he be Milan's captain too?

Here is where I agree with Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti when he commented on Kaka's declaration:

"Kaká would like to wear the captain's armband, I think it won't happen yet this year, next year it might happen if that's what the whole team wants. But I believe it's more important to feel like a leader of the team than wearing the captain's armband, at Milan there are a lot of players who are leaders without being captains, and Ricky is one of those players."
If Gattuso could control his temper, I might opt for Gattuso. Yet, as a role model behavior, I will go for KAKA and Ambrosini.  It is so hard to choose, who will you choose?

I only wish Maldini to be Milan's eternal captain.  There will never be a second MALDINI, unless his son takes his father's role when he grows up.

Thanks CAPTAIN PAOLO MALDINI on behalf of Italian Soccer Serie A.com

It's hard to decide, i think Gattuso will be perfect but like you say he needs to control his temper. Kaka is a great player but he does not have the leadership in the field as strong as Gattuso, i think if Gattuso wants to accept the role, i will be happy. I like Kaka but he has many misinterpreted declarations that not sure whether he really feels the Milan's shirt as Gattuso and Ambrosini.

Pietro Gattuso, so far, will be the best option. A roaring lion motivating his teammates and the fans. I agree on your point about Kaka. How about Alessandro Nesta?

Anna I think Gattuso has what it takes to be a captain. Nesta is a great defender and has been a key player for Milan just as you mentioned, but does not have that drive. my choices will be in the following order:

    1. Ambrosini
    2. Gattuso
    3. Nesta
    4. Kaka

OK really hard question Anna Kaka is GREAT but the others(Nesta, Ambrosini,Gattuso) have better leadership. Its only fair for Nesta to be the leader. Ambrosini is great too but Nesta is one of the best CB in the world Gattuso I'd agree with you and Pietro only if he control his temper, so let me pick Nesta for right now, Ambrosini second choice and Gattuso third, Kaka fourth not that he can't but life is still ahead for him while the others are older.

yeah dude i agree with you,
if we see the list of all captains who made history are defenders, milan was the dream team in defense for past 20 yrs.
gianni rivera, fraco baresi, costacurta & maldini and now Nestaaaaaaaa deserves....
i dont mean gattuso/ambrosini/kaka'/pirlo does't deserve for this.
but there may be ego problems which may arise among the midfielders which will lead to total collapse.

to avoid such circumstances NESTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA is my FAVO

even adidas greeted him with quotation

      "BLOOD BATH DEFENSE".
nesta has all the qualites to be captain of milan.of course he is one of the best CB now.

3 times appearence in world cup all star squad....for nesta

      want more than this??

    hey, all
I want Andrea Pirlo to became the captain of the AC Milan, how genuine and gentle he is as a persona and as a player! He could lead the team all the way!
As of Kaka, he is a great among them, but since the milan is an Italian team, it will be close to the reality that he will not be captain. Despite his great skill, Kaka is not suited to be the captain for his intelligence and experience.

Suri, I agree that ANDREA PIRLO is a gentleman and a brilliant player. Actually, for me, he is the "brains of Milan" when playing because he can read the match and get precision crosses. However, I don't see him as a strong captain. His more a passive person without that commanding leadership. I agree on KAKA too, he is not ready to be captain yet.
