Italian Head Coach Roberto Donadoni "WE ARE HOSTAGES OF VIOLENCE AND WE HAVE TO PUT A STOP TO IT"

By Anna Italia

I totally agree with Italian Head Coach Roberto Donadoni that "We have to make it clear that sports and football have different reasons for existing."  It's absurd that few ULTRAS dictate Italian football image. This cannot continue like this and enough about "soft initiatives without implementing them."  After Raciti, now, the accidental death of the Lazio fan, Gabriele Sandri.

Yesterday, in the first day of training in Coverciano, Donadoni said,  "Totally crazy what happened in Bergamo and then in Rome. Something that makes you nauseous and you just want to get it all out. I think that we are hostages of this violence, but we cannot be slaves like this"

Incredible that instead of talking about the NATIONAL TEAM and the two matches Scotland - Italy, and Italy - Faroe Island, the ultras get more attention for their violent acts.  Just unbelievable! Like Donadoni says, Italy is hostage of violence instead of enjoying the beauty of calcio italiano.

Donadoni then condemned the violence of the ultrà fans:

"When you see certain things, you get sick to your stomach and you just want to get it all out. It is intolerable; we cannot get to these levels. We have to put a stop to it. Almost everyone is just fed up with this situation. I hope that something will be done about it. We are at a point where we cannot satisfy everyone, but we have to be united in understanding that we have to stop putting our interests before everything else. What happened Sunday showed the worst part of us".

For Donadoni, it is fundamental to work in the same direction: "We have to do something all together. What happened takes enthusiasm, and strength away and we have to react and try to be positive. We all have to do something; we have to help one another. We have to be united and support each other".

The team coached by Roberto Donadoni is obviously shocked about what happened, and the head coach has appealed to the team's sense of responsibility: "I appeal to all of you, journalists included, to support the national team. We have to make it clear that sports and football have different reasons for existing".

On Saturday, the team has the important away match in Glasgow, decisive for the Euro qualifications. "Scotland is an excellent team - said Dondadoni - and has recorded important results. They are strong because they are a tight-knit group. Saturday will be a "new" match: they will want to win, and so will we. A draw? In 25 years as a player and a coach, I have never gone on the field thinking of recording a draw".

Milan99 I was also happy when reading Donadoni's statements. It sends a positive message and even Captain Fabio Cannavaro said that it was important for them right now to concentrate on the match against Scotland and not pleasing the few ultra fans that cause more problems than helping.

I hope everything goes fine from the fans part and nothing goes wrong, cause fans do ruin everything sometimes like Milan vs Atalanta

Milan99 I hope everything will be fine in Scotland and ITALY CAN WIN. Gee... it was a shame what happened in Bergamo with Atalanta fans. The Sport Justice should award Milan the points, dont' you think? Not so sure about the rules, but I think once the match started and is suspended for violence reaction, the hosting team is punished...

Anna and Milan99 i also think Donadoni's statements are right, unlike Kaka's declarations. Donadoni is comdening and trying to find solutions without implying anyhting that he might leave or other players.
