What a way to accomplish a mission!  While the challenge for Sampdoria was to win the match to pass AC Milan, Genoa, and Catania who all share the same 14 points, the challenge for Empoli was to win or draw to avoid falling down and down the Serie A Standing.   Sampdoria Coach Walter Mazzarri is all smile today with his team.  Mission Accomplished.

              
Mazzarri was not kidding when presenting his formation to score within the first 15 minutes. Just in the 4th minute, Sampdoria gets a free kick and midfielder Sergio Volpi made a pass finding Christian Maggio ready to slam the ball  freezing Empoli goalkeeper Davide Bassi.  Sampdoria 1 - 0 Empoli.

Sampdoria fans cheer constantly to support their team. In the 40th minute, it is time for the "aeroplanino" (airplane) to fly high. A great team combination with Sammarco sending a cross to Maggio who sees Vincenzo Montella available right in the center of the area and sends the pass. Without hesitation, Sampforia forward Vincenzo Montella shoots the ball and scores the second goal!  Fans in the Luigi Ferraris Stadium celebrate flying with Montella!   Sampdoria 2 - 0 Empoli.

In the 50th minute, right before the end of the first half, MONTELLA almost scored the third goal when Empoli goalkeeper Davide Bassi makes a miraculous save. Montella heads the ball and this time Bassi stopped the aeroplanino while Sampdoria fans continue chanting "Vi Vogliamo Cosi." (We want you like this).

In the second half, Empoli could not find the right strategy to shorten the distance.  Sampdoria controls the match. Just in the 90th minute, Paolo Sammarco, who has a wonderful day, sees his efforts compensated when scoring the 3rd goal!  Again, it was a brilliant team combination with forward Claudio Belluci who contolled the ball, sends a pass to Andrea Caracciolo and then the rest is history. Sammarco catapulted Empoli with a wonderful goal.  Sampdoria 3 - 0 Empoli.
