Italian Head Coach Roberto Donadoni on Why Not Calling Filippo Inzaghi and Alberto Gilardino for the EURO 2008 Qualification Match Italy - Georgia

By Anna Italia

After the afternoon training session in Coverciano, Italian Head coach Roberto Donadoni had a press conference where he touched different subjects, including why he did not call Alessandro Del Piero. Donadoni also talked about the 2 Milan Strikers Filippo Inzaghi and Alberto Gilardino on why he did not call them for the EURO 2008 Qualification match Italy - Georgia.

This is what Donadoni responded on Inzaghi and Gilardino. "It's hard to leave players home: in my work as national team coach leaving a player home, on the bench or on the stands is the most difficult part. Gilardino? I know what he's done, and we shouldn't forget he is a goalscorer, someone who shoots the balls in. Seeing him do well last Sunday only made me happy."

When Alberto Gilardino was asked about not being called for the Italian National team, this is what he responded through Milan Official website. "I think Donadoni made his choices with good reason and the only thing I can do is work hard to put him in difficulty because in June there's a European Championship waiting for us. There are difficult moments for a footballer, but the best thing is to get through them calmly and remaining clear-minded," said Gilardino.

I think it's too early to call Gilardino for the National team, he still has to prove he is consistent because Italy cannot risk the result right now but need to win.
