Euro 2008 Qualifiers Match Italy - France, Materazzi "France will lose at San Siro"

By Anna Italia

Although Italy and Inter defender Marco Materazzi will not play this Saturday, he gave his views to the French newspaper Le Figaro about the Italy - France match.  "France will lose at San Siro. It is an important match that Italy will win," said Materazzi.

Materazzi also mentions the great public at the Stade de France
on September 6, 2006 when France beat Italy 3-1. Many saw the France - Italy Euro 2008 Qualifiers as the second episode of the World Cup final in Germany.

He acknowledges French fans for respecting the Italian anthem and the minute of silent for the death of Inter captain Giacinto Facchetti. Materazzi wishes the public at San Siro behaves in the same way with respect.

Materazzi is promoting his autobiography, A Life as a Warrior (Una vita da guerriero). In his autobiography, he also talks about the Zinedine -  Materazzi issue.

Bien sur. yes. I admit many fans of the French team still believe Italy didn't win the world cup because they didn't beat Italy in the 90 minutes of the Final. I also think Domenech is making unnecessary statements that are not fair play, and it's geting embarassing because he's representing France (as the French team coach). I hope France wins 3 nil like in the Saint Denis stadium. Thank goodness Cannavaro has shown in the last match that he's not in top shape. I'm disappointed at Italy because they're not aggressive enough from minute 1! They've conceded goals in the first half, lost their lead. As world cup champions I expect them to want to win at least 3 nil every game. They have the strikers to do so. Instead they show that the minimum lead they have, they're happy with it. Italy needs to be more aggressive since the 1st minute. Donadoni out. Allez les bleus! Michel

        Hi Milan99,
I thought there were only fans of the Italy team in this blog. So glad to see other fans who support France. Italy has lost its lead in their matches against weak teams. Besides, it's obvious that France "wants it more." They showed it in Paris and they will show it again. A-llez les bleus, A-llez les bleus. Italy thinks the jersey can win for them and sometimes they forget they need to PLAY the 90 minutes- Not take their foot off the pedal after scoring or taking the lead. Coupet v. Buffon what a match. -Michel

Italy has not played well lately, but this game is a lot more important than a friendly. I am hoping they pull it together.

Kenntak, So who are you supporting France or Italy? I hope Italy play as a team and not just score goals. In other words, convince me they deserve to be World Cup champions. The Serie a has started so no more excuses from Donadoni that the other teams are match fit because their leagues started.

Italy could do it but the question is will they be united and do it? You know how when Milan would play against Inter how both sides would treat each other especially Materazzi toward Milan players, u know he's an Italian player so he should be united with his team-mate or is it that he would treat them different when they are playing at the same team?

It will be quite a match... hopefully with an ITALIAN victory.

I saw the 1st half of ITALY -FRANCE. I knew it. Italy just stood there and saw Ribery, Malouda keep possession of the ball. It looked like France was playing at home with no pressure. I was so impressed with L. Diarra! Didn't fear anything when Zambrotta came near him. Too bad San Siro didn't respect "La Marseillaise." They needed to take the "high road." Ribery, Malouda and Diarra were the best for me. I miss Coupet.

Yes Anna I guess sence it was two on two Italy and France drew. I told you before that it would be hard so a drew was common and thats what happen. Italy won't wake up unless they believed in them self, and made people stop unsalting them by cheaters. And prove they deserve being champs. Don't say Italians are cheaters and french are trash talkers, because in both sides one person was, Materazzi cheater, and Domenech trash talker but the difference was that Materazzi is a player and fans care on how players act and Domenech is a coach and usually fans don't care about coache and yes coaches usually are trash talkers. And thats is very sad

Michel, I agree. France seems to be playing at home. Malouda was terrific. Indeed, it was a shame Italians could not respect France's anthem. That was very shameful.
