Four French Players Playing in the Serie A will be in the French Squad for the Euro 2008 Qualifier match Italy-France
By Anna Italia
Among the 24 players called by France coach Raymond Domenech for the Euro 2008 Qualifiers match Italy - France, four players play in the Italian Soccer League Serie A:
Goalkeeper: Sebastien Frey (Fiorentina)
Defender: Philippe Mexes (AS Roma)
Midfielder: Patrick Vieira (Inter Milan)
Forwards: David Trezeguet (Juventus)
Talking about knowing the adversary, David Trezeguet will play against his teammates:
Gigi Buffon, Chiellini, Mauro Camoranesi, and Alessandro Del Piero.
Can you imagine a penalty kick opportunity for Trezeguet and Buffon guessing where he is going to kick?
So, during the 90 minutes of the match no friendship. Del Piero will try to score for Italy, while Trezeguet for France. After, as professionals, friendship returns and they will continue scoring goals for Juventus together.
On the other hand, Patrick Vieira, luckily, will not face his Inter teammate Marco Materazzi because he is injured. Vieira might be Materazzi's teammate, but like he said in August during an interview with the French channel TF1. "I think Materazzi is a great player who had an excellent World Cup and scored a goal in the Final. There are those who love him and those who hate him. I will only say that, as far as I am concerned, I will never sit at a dinner table with him.”
Fact is that Mexes, Frey, Vieira and Trezeguet know the quality of the Italians by playing in the Serie A, while Fabio Grosso is the only Italian player from the Italian National Team playing in France for the Olympique Lyon.

It must be a bit strange playing against one's club teammate. The players will of course be playing their hardest regardless of club team affiliation. However, I wonder if it ever goes through one of the player's minds that he ought to be careful not to hurt his club teammate, or whether during the heat of the game, all club team affiliation status is lost?
